Q. What’s the difference between Reiki and Healing Touch Therapy?
A. Both are energy modalities and use energy to heal the body, mind, and soul; however, they are different in the manner they are learned and performed. Let’s start with Reiki. When learning to use Reiki energy, the student must receive three attunements from a Reiki master/teacher. The techniques taught are simple and can be used however they’re needed once the attunements have been given. There are a few hand positions to help the user channel the energy, and these are often done hovering over the patient’s body instead of actually touching the patient. The movements are not standardized so that the Reiki user can channel the energy as needed by the patient. With Healing Touch Therapy, there are no attunements to go through, but the user must attend classes on the different hand positions, since these are more standardized and specific to different ailments than the Reiki positions. There are more positions to learn with Healing Touch Therapy, and students must become familiar with the chakras and twelve meridians of the body to perform Healing Touch Therapy. Both practices are actually used in hospitals to aid with the healing processes of their patients.

Q. How long do you recommend between Level I and Level II Reiki?
A. I like to give at least 5 to 6 months between Level I and II. This gives the new practitioner time to practice and get comfortable about giving a session and “feeling” different energies.
